We Were Born To Die

The smile on your face and the blonde highlights in your hair
Notice that wrinkle when you bear your soul to the mirror now?
We were born to die

The walks and talks that superceeded the intention and expectation of just one night
Were swept with the sand glass clock and through time and repetition
We were born to die

The gestures and grimaces we found on passer byer’s face
Have rolled into a cloud and journeyed to cast over another state
Through the rain and through the snow that eventually comes
We were born to die

I smell the wine I drink now and I search for the meaning in each glass
Through the wings of a bird that sits by and drinks water from the lake you pass
I hear swiftness and the yearning of the wild
We were born to die

Balcony full of passionate embraces and bright city lights as a backdrop
All is to be remembered and forgotten by the air all in the same
We were born to die

Swimming through the fresh sheets as a dolphin turns and jumps
Through the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and back to see,
With its own eyes
We were born to die

Witness this and all the others; prick yourself in the finger swiftly
Recognize your face in the mirror once again, now that you are
Back to life seeing the morning’s coming clearer then ever thus far
We were born to die
