Stone People

I wonder has my heart failed me, has it fled before my body
Has the ocean become salt-less ?
As I float in it while tears are coming down from the skies
Have I learned to sway in the trees without feeling the wind frisking my feet?

I pick up a few stones on a rainy beach
Stock them on top of each other, and think
This beast of a water mass, this sea, which pleads with no one
And nothing, maybe with nature but it does not appear
I leave them here, I set a person and a stone, to become one
With all of it, all around, to disguise the pureness of the soul
To face the waves, rocks and stones

There my friend, stock another stone statue
To your heart’s desire say pretty please
To your future say, come sway me, if you will
You must and as such only a jazz tune can poke the trumpet

Two stone tiny people sitting atop a rock
Looking ahead into the deep, wild waters
Facing one certainty among a well of uncertainties
Stone, life, water and earth, all is one
All for the better in us
Better in you and I
In due time this too shall pass
Even our alegria – the state of mind
Will not be famished

I no longer wonder; the water has washed it away
I am a stone person today and tomorrow I may be of sand
Who could tell?
As long as today is spent on the rock looking ahead
Into the endless waters of life.

BEAT-MAN MAN-BEAT

Have you ever felt incomplete?
Perhaps you may say yes, and I will just say,
Sit down on a beach where a man is majestically playing a tune,
Becoming one with a round, pristine rim
Now hear the first, second and third beat release
Commence a string of sound, what glory!
Melt them in your ears, sit onto the wet sand, or let your feet twist to an echo,
Succumb to the seeming madness this beat man possesses.
The deep-sea diver pokes his head above the waves
Though as you guessed the tones travel well down under
The hands and the rim create utterly perfect harmony – a live drum.
So I share a story with you now,
Place your thoughts in my hands, if you will and close your eyes,
After walking the hills and almost committing to a chair, exhausted
Some time ago I stood on a corner in San Francisco,
In the darkest hour of the night, when the street is almost asleep
I heard a drum’s beat
Entered the magic eclipse, tipped toed to not disturb
So the beat would not drop, and it carried such intensity, fluidity and passion
Between the lone man and the rim
Is it a tiny movement in the corner of your eyelid I recognize?
The swirls of his hands over the stretched rounded skin now becomes true madness,
The drumsticks relaying, with each new voyage around the brim
It is all he requires, all he knows and all he craves and thus becoming invincible
Grows an invisible layer, halo-like shadow above him
While now clouds on a blue sky, man and the drum, heaven and earth collide
Continue to insist and harmonize, inseparable, unconquerable.
Attempt, even try to come with your wrath,
Over and under or in between, the duo will remain sealed
As one, as two, as three, limitlessly
You must recognize the relentless power of the bond
Only then will the man lift his eyes scan your face
And return to loving every inch of the rim, the strides of the sticks he holds
Pacifying your desires while creating a moment
That will for days unravel in your mind.
Leaves, rain, wind, shadows of a giant
Nothing can interrupt the man and the beat
For he can play blind
Now I see he is blind, music has patched his eyes,
The beat has wrapped his head like a scarf
Resembles a tiger about to hunt his pray, his eyes dawning, clearing the light
Knowing nothing will stop the beat of life, precision of sound
You have been introduced to the beat-man, man-beat rodeo, very welcome.
